忘川上我将一盏魂灯点
above the river of forgetfullness, i hold a soul lamp
为故人照亮这一路长夜
lighten the dark night all the way for the deceased
是怕红尘迷了他的眼
i fear the wordly affairs infatuated his eyes
再不见许下的誓言
never see the previous oath made

都说忘川是有情人的泪眼
everyone said river of forgetfullness was made from lovers tears
千万年也不变的深浅
the depth won't change for countless years
曼珠沙华是冥府的火焰
the manjusaka flower (red spider lily) is the flame of the underworld
也从亘古燃烧到今天
and it has been burning since ancient times until today

奈何桥上等三年 三年复三年
above the naihe bridge, having waited for three years, three years and another three years
邂逅多少阴晴圆缺
run into somewhat rainy and shiny days, the waxing and waning of the moon
* means "uncertainties", "Life is impermanent, life path is tortuous"
人间沧海又换作桑田
the ocean of people, again turns into land
* a scene of constant changes, ups and downs of time (as the blue sea changing into a mulberry field). 
独我在这桥上与众生擦肩
above the bridge only me and my brief encounter to all living beings that passing by
随夜色一点一滴沉淀
follow dim light of night bit by bit subsided

忘川上我将一盏魂灯点
above the river of forgetfullness, i hold a soul lamp
引来蝴蝶蹁跹停留指尖
attract the butterflies stay dancing at my fingertips
恍如红尘迷了谁的眼
seems like the wordly affairs has infatuated someone eyes
我却还等待着谁的出现
i am still waiting someone to appear.
